I just purchased a three phase lathe Powermatic 90, I would like to purchase a motor prior to its arrival, but I need to the frame/shaft size

According to a reprint available at OWWM the Powermatic 90 used a 56 frame motor, 1HP, 1800 rpm. Have fun

Eric, you might consider buying a VFD (variable frequency drive) instead of a new motor. This would allow you to use the existing 3 phase motor as well as giving you fully variable speed, which is a really incredibly useful feature. They can be had for about the same price as a decent motor, and are a real upgrade to a 3 phase lathe. The Teco brand seems to be very popular, you can get them that run on 120V or 240V single phase, for various size motors.

I think there are at least two (green) Powermatic 90 configurations. One has the motor in the casting and one is in the base. The one inside the casting is a small diameter one. I couldn't get a single phase one easily for that one so I left it 3 phase. I'm not sure if the gold color one is different or if the motor is different. Something to check out with years/serial numbers.

If its the one that the motor is inside the bed than a capactor start motor will not fit unless you mount the capactor somewhere's else.If its the one w/the jack shaft then no problems.I have a Teco mounted on my PM90 w/power switch.110v input-230volt 3/phase output.

What yikes? Looks like a clean setup for a VFD retrofit to me.
