Let's suppose that someone was going to be picking up a new table saw, hypothetically speaking of course, and said table saw might be ...oh...maybe a Grizzly 0691;). What would be your recommendation for a quality mobile base for said saw, bearing in mind that it would have the extension table legs?
I currently have some Shop Fox bases that are marginally adequate. I will not, uh.... I mean, I would not get same for this type of saw. I don't think they are easily movable on my concrete garage floor under a heavy machine. I know there are many options including building one and installing good casters, but I think I would spring for a good one if there is a clear winner. One that looks good is the Rockler all-terrain (I think it's called). Pretty spendy but looks to be well made. Your thoughts?

It doesn't connect to your extension table legs out of the box, but with all the holes on the base, it wouldn't take too much to bolt on some other angle iron+casters and support the legs.

I have 3 of these guys for non huge tools. Since they are easily adjustable, I can reuse them when I upgrade tools or decide tool A is now stationary and tool B must roll. It's available from Hartville Tool for $60.

So, you're looking for a great base for a hypothetical G0691?

You need to try a Rockler all-terrain - too expensive, but it's the best I've seen.

Once the saw is bolted to the base, the extension can handle an awful lot of weight without the factory support legs. Not tipsy at all.

I was kind of wondering how well the ext would hold up to some weight w/o the legs underneath. So, how do you bolt the saw to the base?

SawStop industrial mobile base. No questions asked, it is the best mobile base made, but also has the highest price $299. What makes it the best is the fact all 4 castors swivel and it rasies and lowes hydraulically with a foot pedal. It can handle the weight and moves silky smooth and then can be set down on the floor when you get it to were you need it.

I've been meaning to ask this same question for the ever-hypothetical Grizzly 0513x2.

Would that SawStop base fit for that bandsaw? . . . hypothetically speaking.

So, how do you bolt the saw to the base? I extended the rails to their maximum length for the most support under the extension table. I then bolted a piece of 3/4" ply to the base, then a couple bolts through the saw base and ply. Lock nuts all around.

I'm fairly tall, so I don't mind the couple of extra inches in height that this arrangement provides.

I posted a thread recently about some mobile bases that I got. It is in the Deals and Discouts section. I bought them at www.cpowoodworking.com (http://www.cpowoodworking.com) . If you search and find that thread, there is a link directly to the mobile bases. All you need to do is measure the base of that theoretical TS and either match up what they are offering to one that will fit, or call them. They are very helpful.

I STRONGLY recommend a base that is presized...as opposed to one that is "universal". I have heard a couple of times that they are a bit flimsy and can't see how they handle to the weight they claim to carry.

Just found the thread I started. Here it is.

Bumping. The saw is no longer hypothetical! Now I need to get a base ASAP.

But will it fit other saws or just the SawStop?

I sent you a PM. I was wondering how high the table top is with your arrangement? My freestanding table used as an outfeed table is 36".

Why wouldn't you buy the Grizzly mobile base w/extension? Only $140 for the 2 pieces.

Rick,

From what I understand there are holes to mount the saw to the base. I would give sawstop a call and find of the dimensions. Even if your saw doesn't fit the base exactly (yours has a smaller base)you can fabricated a piece of plywood that you bolt your saw too and then bolt the plywood to the base. I have heard of many others using the industrial base on non sawstop saws. Having a mobile base that drops all 4 corners down to the floor is ideal if you ask me. I had a steel city saw with a jet universal base under it, and it was less than ideal. It wobbled a lot even with some modifications. Do to the fact is was always off the floor. I now have the sawstop PCS saw that has a intergral base installed inside the cabinet. It is a real nice base again because it drops the saw down to the floor. But the industrial base is the cat's rear because it has 4 swival casters as well as the hydraulic lift.

I have several of these on various tools. I don't like the smaller casters, don't like how they bolt together, don't like the limited clearance, etc. They were convenient purchases when I had bought other Grizzly tools, but I want to upgrade for the cabinet saw.
