I'm a novice with hand planes, just use them mostly to knock off high spots and quickly strip finishes for re-finishing.

I'm wanting to graduate to taking rough lumber down to finished stock of the proper thickness.

Please post your methods and other tools required, such as winding sticks, try squares, etc.

Thanks!!

I'm sure others will offer alternatives.

Magic! just what I was looking for!

Great piece of wood there, btw. What is the species?

Hi Darin

The wood is She-oak, which is a local West Australian timber. Very, very hard and highly interlinked. Difficult to work but worth the effort.
