Has anyone used the microwave method of drying bowls. How does it work? What is the success rate? What is the procedure? I presently use the DNA method but was wondering if a person could combine the two methods for a shorter dry time.

Joe,
I have not done either one, but not too sure I would mix those two processes.
You will get better answers than I can offer.

I don't think I would try that. If you would happen to say get it a little to hot and ignite it I think it would be show to see. Myself, I wouldn't even consider doing that especially with DNA. It is extremely flammable.

Richard Raffan has a lot of information in his books about using the microwave to dry bowls. It does work if done correctly but it does warp the bowls. I used to use it a lot. But seldom anymore, simply because I not into the warped look any more. The fastest way I know is to make a kiln, or use the DNA method, or boil. Most take two to four weeks.

However, some things just cannot be rushed. I just finished a commissioned piece that I let dry 16 months from rough out to final turn because I just didn't want to take a chance.
