I posted a few pictures of my mixed media work a few days back, while I've got a few minutes, I thought I'd show you a few more.

Pix 1 is a box made of quilted Maple with Wenge splines and lid handle. The top is a fused glass tile I make using window glass and glass powders. I line the inside of all my boxes with black cowside suede and finish with lacquer.

Pix 2 is a box made of pecky Maple and Wenge. I emboss the copper top (roofing copper) with a carved design. This one is a simple carving of 2 horses grazing.

Pix 3 doesn't have a lot of wood working but I hope you enjoy it anyway. The base is carved from a Walnut slab about 20"x15"x3". The limbs are copper tubing. The leaves are sheet roofing copper. The flower is fused and slumped glass.

Thanks for looking. Perry

I like the rounded shape of those boxes. They make you want to touch them. I would love to here how you did that.

beautiful work. I really like the glass insert and light. I too would be interested in hearing how you make the rounded profile on your boxes.

Cheers,
Roger

Hmmmm...Let's see; Out of the three, I *might* be able to hack out the base for the lamp. Maybe. OK, probably not! :o Ditto to what the other guys have said! Beautiful work and your mixed media is balanced out wonderfully! :) Thanks for sharing! Now, if you'll excuse me while I go back to making toothpicks....!

Wow with all the stuff! I did like to know about the light how it was made if I can ask? I was thinking of building a floor lamp that goes over from the back of the sofa to the area of reading. I just didn't have the flintest idea how a lamp can be mounted on the arch of the wood....

Thanks for the comments. Now to answer a few questions. The glass tiles are made by melting 3 pieces of plain window glass together with colored glass powder between each layer. The "fusing" temp is 1500 F. Glass is a very technical art form, but the basics are pretty easy to teach.

The round sided boxes are really not that hard to do. The stock is dimensioned to size (3/4x3xL) with a 1/8 grove for the bottom, then mitered to size, clamped and glued together with baltic ply as the bottom. After the glue sets, the corners are slotted on the table saw and the splines glued in place. To get the shape, cut the edges off at a 45 on the band saw and then sand to final shape with an edge sander. (I have a 3HP Bridgewood with a 6x108 belt.) The top is a frame with the same basic approach. I use a Ryobi detail biscuit cutter to cut the slot in the top for the handle.

The copper work is a little harder to explain in a few sentences. I'll be glad to answer specific questions, via e-mail or PM.
