I have looked in past posts, for an answer to this question and didnt seem to find one.

Are the old LPs, 45's, and 78's laserable?
Do they contain PVC or anything else that is bad for the laser
...other than the bad music which is a good reason to laser them :D

I think they do, but hey! I stopped making records years ago

The true vinyl records (almost everything from the '40s on) are PVC...

Back in my country music days, I made a 10" record, and they put a 12" hole in it!

I can say with experience, there is PVC in the old vinyl records. I had a customer wanting me to cut some for him. He showed me his stuff on Etsy.com and I said sure, why not? We hadn't had the laser very long and we were willing to try anything. I know not to cut PVC on the laser, but I was not sure if there was PVC in the records or not. Needless to say, there was some major cleanup with the laser and not just the lenses. Apparently, the residue from the records caused the rails on the laser to rust as well as all the screw heads. So, my suggestion to anyone wanting to cut/burn records with their laser, think twice about it.

PVC is polyVINYLchloride. Vinyl is just the shortened name. Art
