Nove G3 and a mandrel

I Looking at some manderls that are straight and not MT2 Would it be safe to use them in my G3 where my wood screw goes or am I looking for trouble (I hate trouble) and I don't want to hurt anything. Someone told me pin nose jaws may be OK. I plan on turning duck and predator type calls. Thaks guys.

If it's under 1/2" or 5/8", use a Jacobs chuck. I use the heavy duty one from www.littlemachineshop.com and it's tolerances are very good, and it's massive.
