This is a small maple vase that I turned from a bump that was on a round of maple I cored some nice bowls from. They are still drying, but this one dried in a couple weeks since I turned it to finial thickness to start. It has a little of everything. It is 4 1/2" tall by 3 1/4" in dia. Finished with deft. It is turned thin enough to see light through from top to bottom.

Jack, That is a very wonderful little vessel! It has such contrast and the burl side is very different from the figured heartwood side! Pretty darn cool!

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. When I looked at the bump on this large blank I thought it might have some nice wood inside, just didn't realize how nice it would be. That is one of the things I love about turning, you just don't know what mother nature has in store for you, until you mount chunk of wood up and take a peak inside.
Thanks again,
Jack

Amazing that there is that much variation in a piece that small, excellent work with a very unusual chunk of tree.
