Reading the B-17 story and seeing one fly by the other day after the air show here reminded me of something. Many years ago I was cleaning out an old garage and came across a box with a bunch of postcards, letters and a B-17 manual. The letters and cards were all from a young man from Paradise who was in the service during the war and documented (as what was allowed) his travels for 2 or 3 years. I still have these and would like to find him or a relative that would like these. Internet people search turned up nothing I could use. Where would I look? I have his service number and his name but kind of got to a dead end. Any help would be appreciated and might lead to some interesting stories too.

Did you try ancestry.com? http://search.ancestry.com/search/

Thought being, the possibility of the person being deceased for a while now is pretty good and the "normal" people finder sites won't have record.???

Maybe the Paradise local library or court house? Don't know how far that is from you but they might have old records. Might be able to at least find an old residence and start there.

One other thought depending on how bad you want to find him is to hire a real person to try and track the family tree.

Just throwing out ideas.

You might try contacting the American Legion post in the area. Most of the old vets belong to a post and know many of the others from the area that served.

Paradise, California - about 10 mile up the hill from me in Chico. Thanks for the suggestions. I think even if it is a grandkid that gets this stuff it might be nice. Can't get to it for a day or two - people coming and I haven't gotten my hair cut yet ----

Has anyone actually found something on Ancestry.com? My wife paid for their full access years ago while doing geneology research. She did searches on every branch of my family and hers. She found nothing, zero, nada, bupkis. According to Ancestry.com, we just beamed onto planet earth from another galazy. I was able to find some good stuff on free web sites. I even found a copy of my great-grandfather's WWI draft card.
