If you're a normal sized guy I would say you had it in your back pocket and sat on it. If you're a little guy like me I'd say you ran it over with your car.

Got caught in the TS blade?

I was adjusting the miter gauge and had the square sitting on the table saw. Without looking or thinking I turned the saw on to make a cut and the square flew up in the air, fell back down and landed on the blade, then shot across the room until making contact with the wall. I am pretty lucky it did not hit me. I think it had a bit of velocity.

I've never really had a situation with tools that I felt was dangerous, and this had me pretty shaken.

I re-installed the blade guard. I think the safety reminder was well worth my favorite square.

Brain farts, we've all had 'em. I'm glad this one didn't bite you.

That's what safety equipment and routines are for: to protect you when you do something without thinking. No single mistake should cause injury.

It would appear that YOU were very fortunate that you didn't get hurt today. Lessons learned.

And my stupid moment of the day: While gluing a drawer together, right after one was clamped up, I noticed that I had, not one, mind you, but BOTH sides upside down! I think that I'd have had a problem when it came time to slide the bottom in the grooves that are on the front and two sides. Fortunately, I caught the stupid mistake just after clamping. So, it was an easy fix.

I'm thankful that you weren't injured.

YIKES.
Glad you didn't get injured.

Ah, yes. Nothing like some loose pieces of steel flying around the shop to liven up the day. It's things like that that convinced me, years ago of the value of always keeping an extra pair of shorts in the shop...

I think I would make a really nice frame for it and mount it in a very conspicuous place in my shop. Just as a reminder of what COULD happen.

Yesterday while working in a clients kitchen, I plugged in a router that was supposed to be off. It wasn't, but as it headed for the floor, the power cord snagged, breaking it's fall just short of the floor. You stupid light is just like mine, it comes on AFTER, rather than BEFORE. I want one without the delay function!

Thought about that, but at some point my mother is going to come over and see it and inquire.

Zach,

My son and I use our cabinet saw. One of our "safety routines" is: to lower the blade whenever we turn the machine off so the blade is never above the level of the table to touch anything, be hit by anything, be fallen on by anyone, etc. Yes, it takes time but may I recommend that you put that "safety routine" in your "safety routine". We will "bitch each other out" if we ever catch the other leaving the blade up with the machine off. The only thing sticking up above the level of the table with the machine off on our TS is the Bies splitter and the fence.
