I have an opportunity to purchase some cherry.

2 boards 10' x 9/2" 8/4 for $50 each

2 sheets 3/4" 4' x 8' matching MDF core cherry for $50 each

33 sheets 1/4" 4' x 8' plywood with consecutive plain sliced & book matched veneers for $33 each

I haven't bought any cherry, so I don't know if this is a good deal. The wood is about 45 minutes from me, and it is about 3 hours for me to get to Dallas, the closest place to buy wood of any quality.

Is this a good deal?

Grade means everything. The boards are about 15 bd ft each, so you are paying a little over $3/ft (don't have a calculator in front of me.) If it is clear, no knots, no sapwood, then maybe.

The plywood is priced a little under retail from my experience. But, if you need that much of 1/4", and have a need for the rest of it, then your options on driving to Dallas may make it worth it. Storing that 1/4" plywood and keeping it flat and in good shape may be a challenge.

Unless I had an immediate need, I wouldn't buy it, but I am not in your locale, and I have other options.
