I have a request to make a peppermill in a medium color wood. With walnut to dark and maple to light what would be a nice in between? Thanks for any help.

+1 cherry. It is a nice wood for mills and turns great.

I instantly thought of cherry, but 2 other people already posted that, so I guess that I am not going to post anything about cherry................

If you have it available to you, mesquite makes an excellent mill. It is very dense and heavy, finishes nicely, and if you could get a little sap wood on one side, would be one-of-a-kind.

Here is the first mill I made. Out of cherry, of course. I snapped a pic of it after I gave it to the in laws in AZ the last time we went out to visit (no lighting setup). It just has General Finish Salad Bowl Finish on it.

Mesquite. Not too dark. Not too light. Easy to machine. - John
