Since the kids and wife is watching a movie I thought I would head to the shop and turn a mallet :D
It's just shy of 12" long the head is 3.5" across and about 15oz. I belive it's maple, I bought a box of mixed wood from Walnuts. It was the worst piece in the box, had a few checks. So I decided thats where the handle would be. But the checking is further up then I expected. I end up finishing it anyways, saned it to 220 grits and a couple coats of BLO.
Funny thig is it took me longer to turn my first pen :eek:

Very nice looking mallet Richard, good use of what might otherwise not be used.

Looks pretty good to me! I still haven't turned a pen - or a mallet - but this looks like a nice project!

Good looking mallet. There is a lot of satisfaction in using a tool you made, isn't there?
