I am considering purchasing a ShopFox W1706 14" bandsaw, but have a concern based on the review of bandsaws in Wood Magazine (Sept. 2008 issue #185). When resawing 6" red oak, they claimed that the W1706 had nearly 1/10" difference in workpiece thickness (top to bottom) due to blade deflection.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Resawing is not at the top of my list of requirements for a bandsaw at this point, but excessive blade deflection is clearly not a good thing...

I'm also looking at the Grizzly G0555X.

Thanks for any insights.

depends on the blade and how you fine tune it to start with and what kind of fence you use.

They used Carter 3 tpi 1/2" Accuright blades on each bandsaw they tested and (claimed) tweaked each saw for best performance.

Shop Fox W1706: 0.094" deflection
Grizzly G0555: 0.039" deflection

Looks like they believe some design issues are at work here. Thoughts?
