Thanks again to those who helped me with the ebony stain and the dark spots. This is the result. The dark spots are still there, but they blend much better now. After two coats of ebony stain, I tried to get a liming coat by using thinned white acrylic paint. This didn't work out so well, it muted the dark so much and I didn't want that. So I sanded that coat off and then applied another coat of stain. Much to my surprise, this coat looked a lot better. Wipe-on poly and then I was done. 2 1/4 inch tall and just over 2 inch diameter.

PS. Please excuse my makeshift photobox. It is a manila file folder. A possible tip.

Looks pretty good to me Mark! I like the dark color and the fact that you can still see all the grain! Nice!
