I notice that several of you use Minwax Wipeon Poly - do you use it straight from the can or do you thin it?

I use it now and again ... straight from the container. After several thin coats it can look pretty darn good.

Bernie - anymore, this is my finish of choice. When you first open a can you can use it straight and it will work really well. About the time you get to the 1/2 level - you will need to start adding a little mineral spirits cause this stuff starts thickening up once the can is opened.

Straight from the can until it's all gone. - John

Started a short time ago and it works nice. Straight but haven't got to the half mark yet.

I buy Minwax poly and make my own wipeon by thinning it approximately 50% with either mineral spirits or naphta. The naphta mixture seems to dry faster but does not keep as long.

I use it without any thinning. Most of my work is finished with a satin sheen, but I'll apply 3 or 4 coats of "gloss" in order to more quickly build the finish and then apply just one coat of the satin.

Can I just say that I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes Minwax Poly? (wipeon or straight).

It has a lot of detractors around these parts, but I like it.

I use it on some of my pens. It does take longer when you want multiple coats but the finish is very nice.
