Crib depth?

Hello all,

Does anyone know the appropriate maximum depth for a crib? My wife and I are expecting our first child in another month and I am in the process of designing a crib to be built very soon. The crib will have fixed siderails with an adjustable mattress platform. I need to know how much above the mattress the top of the siderails should be when the mattress is in it's lowest position. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There are Federal regulations about crib dimensions. (This in itself is somewhat strange. There are no regs for adult beds, or for any other furniture as far as I know.)
