I'm guessing Doug Fir or Hemlock, am I close?

I'll say fir as I have an old home loaded with this stuff! Looks identical-hard as a rock, flat and straight.

I'd guess doug fir with a dark stain on it.
Unstained doug fir is much prettier.

+1 on fir. I'm staring at some right now and it looks like your pic, figure-wise.

I use a lot of D-Fir..
It doesnt take a colored stain well, especially the flat grain..
And that is a great example of it.. lol..

Thanks fellas,
This interior designer lady was so sure it was Alder it got me questioning myself.
Yeah, that's one hell of a stain job. My guess is Minwax special walnut. Any takers?

To be honest, I dig that look for basment den panelling. It's got that manly-playing-poker-women-stay-away-unless-you're-bringing-me-scotch-and-cigars kind of look to it.

No, that's not even close to alder. Typical interior decorator.
