It looks to me like David Finck's classic on "Making and Mastering Wood Planes" has been reprinted.

I saw it in an e-mail from Craftsman Studio:

Lately the older editions have been available only through used book stores and often at inflated prices.

I ordered my copy a few months back from David direct. He even signed my copy which was a nice touch.

It is a great book that contains information that is suitable for all wood workers and not only those making planes. eg He has one section of turning fire wood billets into usable wood.

Grabbing a piece of round firewood, using the bandsaw, and all the necessary steps to finish the plane. An adaption I suppose of the " Cradle to the grave" a "Tree to a plane" journey.

A wonderful book.

I attended David's demo at the Furniture Society conference in June. Bought a copy of the book and spoke with David briefly afterwards.

The story on the book is that the original publisher relinquished the rights to publish after which David self-published another run. I don't recall how many copies David said he printed but it wasn't a lot: if you want a great book about making and using wood bodied planes I suggest you get it while you can.
