Has anyone used one of these Lee Valley small shoulder planes yet? http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=63847&cat=51&ap=1 I'm not sure how long its been out.

Brand-spanking new. I checked the LV "What's New" button Monday and it wasn't there then. I've placed my order. Now where is their medium or large plow plane?

According to the website, it says it was added in September, which means the last couple of days.

Looks pretty cool. I have the medium and think it is great. I don't have much call at the moment for a narrower one, but that may change.

Cheers,

Chris

Nice looking piece of metal! Should make a nice paper weight?:D

Fixed it by posting on the new saws.

So if I've already got their bullnose http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=49709&cat=1,230,41182,48945
is there any reason to put the small shoulder plane on my Christmas wish list? They look like they both fit the same niche/need??

Not sure I understand shoulder planes very well. I had a LV medium and ended up selling because I just never found the occasion to need it. However, the small seems that it would be better in that you can cover the same area if necessary but with a couple of passes. To me, the main thing would be that you can clean up dados of anything 1/2 or bigger where the medium has to be a full 3/4 to do the same thing - and it would still trim a tenon shoulder in a single pass. What am I missing?

The bullnose is an inch wide, vs. 1/2inch. I would put it on the Christmas wish list.:)
