View Full Version : Salvaging a 42x setter

I recently bought a 42x saw setter on ebay that turns out to be a miss as the anvil and front screw were missing. It was a careless mistake on my part for not taking a better look at the photo.

So is there any way I can make this usable? I was thinking of getting my hands on a 42 (which is way cheaper on ebay) as the anvil looks similar to the 42x but I'm not completely sure if they're compatible.

Hong,
Welcome to the creek.

Hopefully someone can give a better answer to your question.

I see a few different designs in the Stanley #42 saw set family. Stanley does sell some replacement parts, but it looks like the anvil if for a different model.

I think as long as the anvil is made to be adjusted by the screw on the bottom it should work. But again, I am not sure but I would likely give it a try.

I have a few saw sets and the Stanley #42 does work better than the others.

Good luck,

jim
