Maybe you guys can help me. I am looking for a supplier of wood columns. What I need are 3/4" or 1" dia. 11" long fluted columns for several clocks I'm building. I would be willing to buy longer and cut to lenght if I have to. Does anyone know where I might be able to get these?

Thanks
Richard

Rich,
Try your local millworks company.
They run miles of moldings and fluted columns are just a form of molding.
Mike

ps you could buy a dowel and make a scratch stock to put the fluting in, but you are looking to buy a finished product.

Check penturners.org; someone might be willing to turn the number you want in exchange for a clock :)....or chickens or ...or...

Rich, as Mike touched on about making your own using dowels and fluting them yourself. I did this a few years back but 48" ones. I made a simple wooden frame the exact size of the dowel and indexed on the end. Using a 1/4" round nose bit in the router table turning the dowel between trips to the next index point. They turned out great. My two cents.
