Lathe HP rating

I am refering to the two new Delta lathes.
The 460 is 1 hp, while the standaerd is 3/4 hp.
Does the vs need a bigger hp rating, meaning the 1hp actually may only produce 3/4 hp because of the electronics?:rolleyes:

Both seem to have the HP they need to run good. I have used both models and not had a problem with power. One does not seem to have more power than the other. I think the VS does need a little more HP to have the end power at the different speeds.
I have maxed out bowl blanks on both. Of course my Jet 1642, 1 1/2HP will do a little better but for a mini lathe they were great.

I am not sure if the electronics make any difference but do know the 460 I had a chance to turn on does seem to have more power than my Jet 1220.
