My guess would be no. There is a guy in Seattle whose business is called Pepper Passion. He sells the peppers, salts, and mills. Besides Lignum, he uses cocobolo, pink ivory, 50,000 year old bog wood, and other exotics. You could web search him and ask, but I can't imagine using finish on the inside of a mill.

Worst case pour some shellac inside and swirl it around and pour out the excess. That should take care of any concern about contamination. Good Luck and post some pictures when you are done.

Bill,
I've used Cocobolo, Chakte Viga, and black walnut without any problems.
I haven't bothered with any finish on the inside.

is it 'real' lignum vitae you have on hand, or that Argentinian substitute? Just curious, mike
