View Full Version : Another oak burl bowl plus one maple vase.

I just finished another bowl from the large oak burl. This one is a gift for the person who gave the oak burl to me. The Oak burl bowl is 12" in dia. by 5 1/2" deep. It is finished with deft to help fill a few voids around the eye burl and show off the grain.
The second bowl is a maple vase. The curl is hard to believe in this bowl. It is 12" tall by 7" in dia. I'm going to put a few more coats of deft on it to bring out the shine a little more.
Thanks
Jack

Jack,
Those are all spectacular pieces. The curl and grain is simply amazing. You have really brought out the burl and color very well on them all. Great job on some beautiful wood. The vase has some wonderful spaulting and the form is very pleasing. Super Work.

Beautiful turnings. I love the oak burl.

The burl did you turn it green and return or was the burl seasoned?

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Mother nature does most of the work. I just try and bring it out to be seen. I still have one more bowl out of the oak burl to return. After that I will have a few game calls and wine stoppers when the slabs dry, I cut from the oak burl.
Mike, I turned both green and dried them in paper bags. I returned both after they where dry. On nature edge pieces I turn them to finish thickness green, but I like to return pieces with a turned rim so that it is not out of round. It is just a personal thing.
Thanks again,
Jack
