Encouraged by the success of my Quaking Aspen hollow form the other night I decided to pull one of my best pieces of wood off of the shelf and get to work. Here are the results.

Curly/Spalted Maple,
11" X 4"
1 1/8" opening
Watco Danish oil finish.

Comments/critiques welcome

Thanks,
Jason

Impressive HF Jason! Nice size to it! Beautiful wood - just love it when spalting and curly get together! About the only thing I would like to see different is your background. You have so much going on behind the vase that it is hard to see the curve of the form. No big deal - just think your work should be showcased a little more!

Looking forward to seeing your next HF!

jason, excellent piece! spalted woods are so cool, and your form is spot-on - thanks for showing the blank, as well as the finished piece. great work. btw, how did you mount it - waste block, faceplate, what? (i'm like you when it comes to photographing - i just do it wherever). mike

Mike, Started between centers and then mounted in a scroll chuck for hollowing. Reverse turned with a jam chuck and the tailstock to finish the bottom down to a small nub.

Steve, I'll take and post better photos later, these are just quick cell phone shots in the shop.

Thanks,'
Jason

Jason,
That's a beauty. The Form is very pleasing and you brought out the colors and grain with the Watco really well. Great work. Thanks for showing.
