I made myself a donut chuck to finish off the bottoms of some things I am working on (now that the cradle is done I get to turn) :). Wondered if I can get some advice on speed limitations; how fast (or how slow) should I go in finishing off bottoms? Lots of stuff hanging off the spindle and I don't want holes in my roof. :) Thanks for any advice you can give.

We'll need more information:
What kind of lathe?
How big is the piece, compared to the lathe?
How secure does the piece seem to be in the donut chuck?
How well balanced is it?
Can you take off most of the bottom with the tail stock still in place?

Without that knowledge, go as slow as you can and still get a clean cut, as fast as you can and still feel like you are in control.
Take small light cuts so that you are less likely to throw the whole thing off balance.

Thanks George. Took your advice and snuck up on it.
