I just finished this this afternoon and thought I'd post it for folks to critique. I didn't even wipe the marble dust off of it prior to taking the picture.

Excellent rendering. My only suggestion is to use a "softer" font.

I agree with your suggestion about the font Steve, but since the customer picked this one, well you can understand why I used it.

That is some wonderful contrast you got on that piece...

Thank you Dan! A little time spent in Photoshop making the eyes stand out a bit better. . .then the voodoo incantations. . .then let the laser do it's thing.

Beautiful job! Is that "generic" marble tile or "laser-specific"? Excellent detail and contrast!

Thanks folks, I appreciate the comments.

Dee, it is PURE BLACK MARBLE. . .which my supplier tells me is "Blacker" than absolute black marble. . .in other words, there are virtually no veins of any kind running through the marble. . .and it is not laser specific marble.

Pure 'real' marble produces amazing photographs, and it's practically goof proof.. I love working with it ..when I can find it for a reasonable price.. The tile shops around here want $15.00 for a 12x12 tile..

Bill,

If you're having to pay $15.00 a 12x12 tile then we need to talk.

I'll be more than happy to sell you all you want at $8.25 a 12x12 tile in packs of ten. . .plus shipping. Suggested shipping would be flat rate Priority Mail boxes as that would be the cheapest.

Ahh ya, but then I have to add the 15% plus money exchange, and your flat rate Priority mail pack to Canada, would not be so flat rate.. (15% added to that as well) + customs clearance even the post office charges 5 bucks here. (10 x 8.25 + $40.00 shipping to Canada + 15% Exchange + $5.00 P.O. Customs clearance = $145.88 'Canadian' / 10 = $14.59 per tile .. If they all make it unbroken..

Bill, maybe it would be worth it to take a drive across the border to a US tile shop, pick up half a pallet's worth (assuming you have a truck that can handle it), and claim it as scrap (mark up the boxes, take them out of their boxes, etc.). Not sure if it would work to cut down on taxes, but it would certainly cut down on shipping charges.

Nope.. No Truck; It's the shipping and the $us2cdn$ exchange that kills ya.. At this time last year, the CDN$ was worth 10% more than the US buck, and thankfully, 'thats' when my laser tube crapped out.. The lasersketch stuff is getting me by right now, I'll just have to keep my eyes open for deals..
