It rained all day Friday so I was not able to work on my deck. At 2 pm I realized I had the time to go turn something! Yippee!!! :D This is the result.

Maple bowl with a real nice flame pattern, 10 ½” diameter x 4” high x ¼” thick. The bowl has 3 of 5 coats on poly on it and when finished will be buffed and instead of carnauba wax I plan on hand rubbing Renaissance wax on it.

Beautiful bowl Steve. The feathering in the wood that shows in the pic with the inside of the bowl is especially nice. It looks like ripples in the sand in a stream. That's a very nice form too. Glad to see you get some turning time again.

Hi Steve,
Handsome form and grain, your usual good work.
I can't wait until I can produce such a sweet shape.
Glad you got some shop time,
Walt

Hi Steve, Rain is good for something! That is such interesting maple. I love all the patterns. Great job! Now let's hope for more rain. Your back needs the rest. Can I assume this wood had been rough turned and dried previously? Alan

Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

Alan - this bowl was roughed out over a year ago and has been patiently waiting on a shelf until I could get to it!

Pretty piece Steve. I really like the form you chose and the grain is outstanding. Just don't use it to hold deck screws!...Bill...

What a nice simple, understated bowl. I really do like the use of simple forms to highlight the wonderful wood that is used.

Hi Steve, OK, I have only turned THREE bowls but for what it is worth;

I like the crisp lines of the rim. The contrast with the soft profile of the form gives it balance. And, of course, the maple is spectacular.
Very inspiring, Thanks

Yeah, Steve. I really like the flashy grain in that piece of maple. Also really like the width to height ratio. Form is very pleasing to the eye!

Steve, The figure in your super nice bowl does look like flames and heat radiating up! You have access to some very nice hard maple in the U.P. and you know what to do with it!! Everything has been said so I will just add 'DITTO".

Nice job and thanks for the inspiratiion,

Jeff

Steve,
You have such good tool control and grasp of form. This one is a real feather in your cap. (pun intended) Great job going from the deck to the Lathe. Well done.
