I have some gloss black laminate that I ordered for a project and it's been in the carton since I received it UPS. It has a protective plastic film on it but I notice some scratches in the plastic film. I'm not sure if these went through to the laminate surface or not. Anybody have experience with this? I cannot peel off the film beforehand because I need it for protection as well.

If it is lightly scratched , can it be buffed out successfully?

bet you it's on the film and not the actual laminate surface :D

Polishing scratches out of PL (especially glossy black!) is an "iffy" proposition at best. You would be wise to remove the film, at least in the areas where you fear there might be a scratch. You can tape some paper over the area to protect it until you are ready to remove all the film. But you are really taking a risk laying up PL that you think might be damaged.
