I have three bases for my Bosch 1617 and need another motor. I'm tired of switching from the D-handle to the plunge base.

Can anyone direct me to a source that has reasonable prices on these things?

Thanks,
Jim

Nope. There really isn't a cheap way to get just the motor. Just shop around and see what you can find (look everywhere and under every stone). I either bought mine through Hechinger or Tool Barn online.

I bought a separate motor for use in my router table and the cheapest I could find was $155 (for the 1617EVS). I thought about buying the kit with just the fixed base for $199 but I figured that was $44 I didn't need to spend and have an unused fixed base sitting around :)...then I managed to knock a bunch of stuff of the workbench on the concrete, including the router in the fixed base . The base smashed into a dozen pieces...the new base cost me $70.

Uh, here you go:

http://www.toolbarn.com/bosch-16171.html

Although Anthony is right, it isn't really cheap.

Gotta be careful with this. There are two 1617 motors, a single speed and a variable speed. The ToolBarn link is single speed, the link to MyToolStore has both. I believe (based on the info at MyToolStore and not re-researching) the 16171 is a 2HP single speed motor and the 16176 is the variable speed 2 1/4HP motor.

P.S. my first post was in reference to the variable speed pricing...which doesn't look like it has changed much. Luckily?

Anyone have a reasonable conjecture for the pricing scheme on the mytoolstore site? Looks like three motors involved, 16171 single speed for use with the fixed base @ $150, 16176 variable speed for use with the fixed base at $160, and 16186 variable speed for use with the D-handle base (1618EVS) at $170.

OK, the $10 jump between the 16171 and 16176 can be attributed to the variable speed and slightly more powerful motor. But, unless I'm missing something, the specs and descriptions imply the only difference between the 16176 and 16186 is the shorter cord on the 16186. The OP implies the same motor will fit all three bases so why pay the extra $10 for a shorter cord?

Boy! And I thought this was gonna be easy.

$150 for a single speed motor!

You can buy the whole kit with fixed and plunge bases, variable speed motor and case for $199. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=136633-353-1617EVSPK&lpage=none

I just don't need all that stuff, again.

I just picked up an almost new PC 690LR for forty bucks today. I'll start looking for a D-handle base for that.

Thanks,
Jim

bosch 1617 is a great router but ever since i discovered the PC 690, i've been buying them off of craigslist and ebay left and right for a steal at usually less than $100. they're great for spinning the smaller bits.
