I am looking for instructions on how to make the bit holder portion of this piece(want to make my own tips), I just want the thicker piece with the "routed" part to hold a bit. What it's called and where to get it or info? Anyone?

Gary,

If you took a photo to a good machine shop and showed them, I'll bet they could make one cheaply.

All it really is.....is a thick machined washer with a 3/16" groove cut into it to hold the 3/16" cutter. IIRC it is a 3/16" cutter. The hole in the middle is just big enough for the screw.

If I or someone else can find one, I'll take some measurements of mine and send them on to you with some crude drawings.

Gary,

It's called a swivel tip.

You can buy it at Packards

Look around there Gary. You can get the 3/16" bits... etc. I believe I've seen Woodcraft advertising the bits for sale too.

$30 seems like a lot of money for that! Why not just bore a hole in the end of a metal rod and glue in a HSS bit. I'm doing this and got the info. here. Check my previous posts and the specifics should be there. I think I just asked about making your own hollowing tool.

Should be fairly obvious by inspection. All you need is a grinder, drill with bit, and a tap.

I made one with the tooltip opening just drilled through, I used a slice cut off a round steel bar, here are a couple of pictures, and a rough sketch, you could also add a set screw to keep the bit locked in place. HTH
Ground the flat face on the side to start drilling easier.

Least expensive I have found thus far.

Leo thanks for the info too.

That looks good Gary, and at that price hardly worth it to try doing it yourself, unless you have all the stuff and like doing these things ;-))
