right now one of the things i am working on is a goblet made from apple burl. the problem is that after making the stem and the cup prtion there wasnt enough wood to make the foot. it is a congac glass, so its not to tall. sould i use another peice of apple to make the foot, or should i use a peice of fancy wood, like wenge, mahogany, walnut, bacote, osage?

Curtis - just my opinion - I really like the goblet portion. Nice form and really great looking wood! If it were mine - I would turn a pedestal out of a very dark wood so it would enhance the bark inclusions/dark areas that are present in the apple. Whatever you decide to do - I look forward to seeing the finished version!

so bacote or wenge? or something alittle less flashy like walnut?

I think walnut would be nice. Peruvian walnut would be really nice :-)

I agree, a dark pedestal - turn away the apple stem and make a new one from oak or something else with lots of tannins and then hit it with your vinegar and steel wool. Alternatively, I think a nice dark stick of cocobolo would complement the inclusion color well. Wenge would be ok, if it isn't a bright or contrasty piece of wood.
I'd probably make it fairly short, like a brandy snifter, but that's just me.

Any dark wood, but you want something plain and not flashy-grained. You don't want to take away from that bowl!
I would suggest Black Walnut if you want to stay domestic, or possibly sapele or mahogany.
