This tool borrowed heavily on the tool made recently by Richard Bell.

Thanks to a friends TIG skills, this project is nearly complete, all that is left is the laser attachment. The boring bar holder was made to be double sided without the use of an insert and can accept 1/2" and 3/4" bars. The down tubes on the captured tool rest are sized to be able to move this system from a lathe with a 12" swing to a max of 24". Thanks to the TIG this sucker isn't going anywhere. We even made a mini NCWW day out of it. Here are some pics of the day and the completed hollowing rig.

You know what cracks me up? How the woodworker/tool person not only see's the object in question, but they also see every tool available in the photographs background. Not just this time, but almost all the time. :D

OH, really cool doing your own jig. Cool!

Guys - thanks for the kind words! I'm Gary's "welder", and when I saw him today he mentioned this string. Although I frequent SMC, I'm not usually on the turners thread; thus I missed this thread back when it was originally posted.

The Hollowing rig turned out pretty well. Gary did all of the fit up, and really did a nice job of it. It sure makes welding easier when the parts all fit together with close tolerances.

Paul, that hit and miss drag saw is an original Economy brand saw and engine. It's the only one that I've ever seen where the brand of the saw matched the brand of the engine. It does a pretty good job sawing, too!

Gary,
Really great meeting up with you yesterday at Scott's and yes it is a fact,Scott has the most unreal setup I've ever seen.He has every toy I ever thought of while checking my Powerball tickets on Sunday morning. And he has the talent to put all of them to good use.

Jon,
The internet teaches us to look at every detail, everywhere on the screen to try and figure out what the h@@@ we are supposed to do next. Turning teaches us to look at every detail of the work piece to try to learn what we can do better with our own work. At least that's how it works for me.
