With all the problems in the world there are still some nice things out there. I got the letter below from the son of the American elder statesman here in the Peruvian Amazon. Dan is closing in on 90 and every year goes home for his reunion of the "Lost batallion".
These are a group of vets that worked as prisoners on railroads and bridges while prisoners of war including the Bridge over the River Kwai.
He can still manage a bottle of rum with the best and has to be the best Viagra customer here in the area. He is shown in photos 61 and 62 in the white shirt with his glasses on top of his head.
Also attached is a photo of him here in the Amazon while we were celebrating my wifes 63rd. That is my wife with the baby monkey sticking out of the neck of her shirt.
We only had 11 ex-POWs that could make it this year. We lost 10 over the course of the past year. Out of the original 568 captured, only about 50 are still alive. At this rate they will all be gone in about 5 years. Papa Dan holds the distinction of being the only living member that saw action on the front-lines.
Some "stills" taken at the Lost Battalion reunion. The 1st 10+ or so of the riders themselves. Shows several shots of the ex-POWS receiving individual awards from the "Guard".
If you are not familiar with the group, please check them out. I've included their website address below the photo link. They are a wonderful organization and every single one of them is a true patriot.
