For those that have built the Maloof style rocker, what is a good source for the ebony lamination that was used in the laminated rocker? Although somewhat thin, it appears to be a long narrow piece. Thanks

I've not seen Ebony for sale in pieces larger than 24". Woodcraft often sells it in these lengths. For long pieces, people most often go with a scarf joint and butt pieces end to end.

I have a piece that started out just under 6' long. It's 12/4, about 6" wide. Got it some years ago at Colonial Hardwoods in Springfield, Va. They have a website, and they ship. Not cheap tho'.

Just use multiple pieces. The wood is so dark you can't see the joint as long as it's made well.

I've gotten long pieces of ebony from Tropical exotic hardwoods in Carlsbad, CA also try Gilmer's in Portland ,Or or Eisenbrand in socal. It is a lot easier to find long lengths in Macassar ebony then the gabon variety.

As was mentioned, you can get larger sizes (for now) of gabon ebony pretty easily from specialty wood dealers like Tropical Hardwoods of Latin America (www.anexoticorchard.com (http://www.anexoticorchard.com)), but be prepared to pay in the neighborhood of $75 - $90 a b.f.

There's a considerably less expensive alternative that is very, very dark - Wenge. It's available in huge boards from most specialty lumber suppliers.

I don't know where you live, but Parkerville in Connecticut had a pretty good selection of long ebony pieces the last time I was in there.
