This is another small cocobolo box. This one is all cocobolo from the same 4.5" x 4.5" x 3" block. The finial is one of the corners cut off when rounding it. It looks pretty dark in the pics but it actually has some grain showing in it. It's about 4.25" across and 4.75" to the top of the finial. Just waxed and buffed.

Beautiful work Curt! Nice form - great looking wood! Really like the simple curves of the body and finial as well as the clean line where the lid fits! Very nice - very precise!

Sweet. Like Steve said Great fit on the lid.

Do you ever have problems with wood movement when the lid fits that exactly?

I don't know about small. That seems like a nice size piece of cocobolo.

You did a wonderful job and I really like the finial!

I like it. The form and figure. I had assumed you had used some Ebony for the finial. That is pretty cool. The dark look from just a corner piece. I like it. Well done!

Lovely piece of wood and your expertise in turning it shows it off. The finial fits the shape and also looks very functional. Good work Curt.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. I appreciate it

Toney
Toney, I let you know for sure in a few weeks. But usually if I turn the lid and the box from the same piece I have pretty good luck. There's a little bit of gap for movement.

Curt, I love the shape and simple finial, it lets what you have done with the wood be the center of attention! Boxes are one of my favorites to do, but it seems I never get enough of them done!

Great job and a good inspiration!

Well, Toney was right about this one. After a couple weeks of Utah summer weather, 90+ temps and 10-15% humidity, it warped enough that the lid no longer fits. I guess I'll sand the lid oval so it will have a "one way only" fit. Lesson learned, face grain boxes, even from so-called dry wood, just seem to have problems.

Curt,
I have never found Cocobolo very easy to do anyhting with. You did an excellent job on the box. form, fit and finish were right on. I have a few pieces where the top/lid fit only one way also. They become artwork and puzzles at the same time. Very Well Done.
