I have had a few of their tools over the years, none of them lasted very long. I have no personal experience with the planner but you get what you pay for. In most tool reviews, Ryobi is usually at the bottom of the list.

my first planer was an AP-10 (10" model)

For a little lunch box planer, it worked pretty well.

I think I payed $50 for it.

It sits in the corner waiting for the day I have to take it with me to do some thicknessing on the job, somewhere.

The latest 1301 model isn't as well regarded as the model it replaced, and it has no cutterhead lock so will be more prone to snipe. I can't help but think you'd be better off with a refurbed DeWalt, Delta, Ridgid, Makita, Hitachi, or even some other more full featured planer that either has a cutterhead lock, or is a 4-post design that doesn't require one (DW735, Ridgid 4330).

Matt has a used 733 DeWalt listed for sale. That's where I'd go.

Never buy Ryobi tools. They have no guts.
