I haven't posted pic's in some time. Busy learing the new DVR but finally got something finished up. I haven't turned Cedar in quite a while also. I was having trouble after my HF's sat for about 3 months with the Poly finish being sucked down into the knots. It was bad enough that you could feel the annual rings through the finish. I have started soaking those knots or wild grain with CA before sanding and all seems to be fine now. This tall HF is 12 3/4" tall and 7.75 wide. Has a bit of texturing at the mouth just for a bit of decoration. Finished with 6 coats of gloss wipe on poly and a final top coat of minwax spray gloss poly. Buffed with white diamond and the wax wheel...Bill...

Beautiful as always Bill. I really like the high gloss finish that you get on your pieces.

Very nice as usual. Do you get all your cedar locally? I remember a lot around Ft. Leonard Wood.

Hey Bill, what hollowing method/system do you use? I'm about to hollow some cedar and I would like to get it anywhere near what you've done!

Yep, I grew up in Jacksonville, IL and got my draft notice in May-1967. Got on the bus June 6 1967 and spent the summer at Ft. Leonard Wood. Then off to Ft. Knox for AIT.

Bill,
I always enjoy your hollow forms. Always great form and finish. Glad to hear you solved the knot problem. You have it down to a science. Well done.

Tom, I use a homemade articulated hollowing system called the steel snake. Plans are out there from Capt. Eddie at the Bayou woodturners. Pretty simple to make if you have a drill press.
Steve we were close. Got my draft notice in June of 66 and off to a long hot summer at Ft. Wood in August of 66 then on to Ft. Sam Houston for AIT. Like many I wouldn't take a million bucks to have missed it but wouldn't take that million to do it again either..Bill..

Gorgeous HF! I love the cedar and your finish is superb! I also like the texture at the top.

Bill,
Agree with you on the million bucks either way. Spent a long hot summer in Korea very much like Ft. Wood but more snow in the winter.
