Here's another one . . .

The pictures really make the figure stand out !! I think it is the flash that does it, since in real life the figure is not this pronounced, although it does look nice.

Danish oil, Wipe on Poly, and wax, my old standby (lazy man's way)

Really stunning Mark! It would be great and most appreciated if, with your next box, you could post a few pics showing the tecniques you use for the inlays. Shelley

I'm with Shelly....stunning! Some in-progress pics and narration would be nice for those of us with developing skills :)

"Stunning" seems to continue to be the right word! I also really like the undulating divider profile...different and attractive!

Thanks for the comments guys !

One of these days, I'm going to make a box, and take pictures thru the whole process.

All the inlays in this box were just cut with the table saw, then I used the 16-32 sander to get the inlays to size. Nothin' real special.

Thanks again

Boxes are a nice way to say thank you to some one. And your boxes say THANK YOU in large letters.

Beautiful. Can you elaborate on the 16 - 32 sander? I don't know what that is.

Nice stuff, Mark...very nice!

Bob, the 16-32 is probably that Performax sander. You know, 16" wide but open on one end so you can flip your work around to sand the other half. :)

Wow, I've noticed that some woods just stand out with the flash more, but by holding up to a light you can usually see the same thing, it's that light reflection in the grain. I have a birdseye table that amazes me everytime the light is hitting it right. I really like your design. I've had some people tell me there is too much figure if mixing highly figured woods, of course I think there complete dumba$$es$.

Ralph

excellent question. but you won't get an excellent answer !

I have no idea how long any of my projects take, because I rarely ever do one from start to finish un-interrupted.

From start to finish probably took 3 months or so, I'm not in any hurry, but actual work time ????? I would say 10 hours ?? but really have no idea !

OK.....this is the second time I've seen this at the end of a post that is more than two years old. Michael, what are you trying to accomplish with this?

Once is curious, twice is annoying, three times will be borderline spamming...

Great looking box. The contrast of the woods and the innerplay of the inlay works perfectly. Nice job.

Great looking box. How did you attached the hinges. From the picture, it looks like they were flush mounted on the back?
