Bowl and platter

Here is a bowl and platter from the wood Brian and I went and got.

10 inch bowl and 9 inch platter, this stuff isn't the most interesting but I used a particularly boring piece, there is definitely some better stuff that we got.

Thanks steve, we had a demonstration on grain orientation at the guild a few months ago and ever since I have started to pay more attention to grain.

Sometimes, I like to play with some kind of coloring or texture with a boring piece of wood. An accent stain can sometime change the whole direction of the piece. A nice light stain that I like to use is the MinWax "Fruitwood" color.

Then there is always ebonizing or the blow torch...
