That Jameel demonstrates in this post for creating the geometric inlay. Begins at the 5th pic in the post. Want to find if any books exist but don't know what to google

Thanks

I just use my imagination to figure out how to make built up inlay strips. It isn't terribly difficult to figure out how to do it. Trick is making the angles accurately so they fit.

It's called "inlay banding."

Here are a couple of links:
http://www.lvipublications.com/inlay-banding-process.htm
http://www.inlay.com/marquetry/wood_inlay_part1.html - it's down near the bottom of the page.

I've never done it, but it looks very interesting. Google Images shows a bunch of amazing banding (http://images.google.com/images?q=Inlay%20Banding&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS290US290&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi).

I saw Jameel's post and tried to duplicate his effort exactly (not on a lute) and it was a heck of a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

Definitely give it a shot . The look is spectacular and people will think you are some kind of rocket scientist woodworker.

If only I had the creativity to just sketch up something that. That Guitar of yours in hand tools is amazing

John
Thanks for the links. Doug Stowes box books also have some examples for creating banding

Cliff
I also made a copy per Jameels pics like you said folks think its ingenious.

The Doug Stowe book that introduced inlay technique to me is "Creating Beautiful Boxes With Inlay Techniques"

I is a lot of fun.

I ran into this not completely irrelevant link (http://www.orietals.com/mosaic-steps.htm)which shows how "mosaic" panels are made of wood. It's a similar process but used to create panels instead of bands.
