Here is a mahogany hall table I finished on Sunday. Top is made with MDF core, satinwood edge banded, 1/16" mahogany veneer top and bottom. Legs are mahogany with holly stringing and yellowheart panels. The panels are made of five strips which were sand shaded to give some contrast. Aprons are laminated with five 3/4" layers then band sawed, sanded and veneered. The veneers are sapele (pommel figure), sycamore (quarter sawn) and walnut. Letters are ebony. Finished with linsee oil and Waterlox. Top also has pore filler. The bottoms of the legs were treaated with iron/vinegar to give the dark color.

John,
Very nice table, I love federal style furniture.
Did you use any stain on the mohogany or is it just blo followed by a topcoat?

I also put potassium dichromate to darken the mahogany. It didn't do much for the other woods so made a good treatment with mixed woods.

Extremely nice piece of Federal John and I think Rob Millard would agree on that. Over my head with the veneering and inlays so... I am envious. Keep up the outstanding results...
Congratulations....

I used potassium dichromate to darken the mahogany. It does not darken the stringing or the yellowheart panels significantly.

Sanded to 220 grit, BLO, potassium dichromate, 4-8 layers of Waterlox original (semigloss).
