Howdy everyone,

Well, yesterday was the day I've been waiting on. I finally got my freshly built and finished computer station into my freshly painted and tiled office space. I have had an office in a corner of the great room for the last 5 years. There was no way to escape work. Every time I walked through there it was all laying there in plain sight. It is SO nice to have an office space that has a door!!!!!! :D

Here is a shot just as you enter the door. The cabinets are made from el cheapo HD maple ply with solid maple face frames. Everything was built with pocket screws. It has clear semi-gloss poly on it that I thinned and wiped on. Rather than building drawers I just sized the cabinets to house my existing file cabinets. I think it worked out great!! Not fine woodworking by any means, but the cabinets should will serve me well for a long time to come.

You can see that this furniture was sized just for this space. I need lots of counter space and storage. I got plenty of both now!!!

<IMG SRC ="http://www.terryhatfield.com/o3.jpg">

Here is the corner cabinet. I almost had to call 911 yesterday as Cheryl and I were wrestling this piece into this room. I had to remove the door and the door frame to get the thing in there. It would have been a real bummer if we had not been able to get it into the room!!!!!!

<IMG SRC ="http://www.terryhatfield.com/o6.jpg">

Cheryl helps me often and she finally has a little space of her own when she does. This cabinet was designed to house 3 of my file cabinets and leave enough room for her office chair.

<IMG SRC ="http://www.terryhatfield.com/o7.jpg">

I built this cabinet a couple of years ago and used it in my original office space. It works well in the new space also. It's oak ply so it really doesn't match the other pieces but what the heck. It's just an office. :D

<IMG SRC ="http://www.terryhatfield.com/o4.jpg">

I am very pleased with how this all turned out. It will make working a bit more pleasurable and when I'm done with work I can turn out the light and close the door and not have to see all the things that go along with my job until I choose to see them again. :D

Thanks for looking,

Terry

Terry, not only functional but it looks good too. I can imagine how much better it feels to be able to close off the paperwork when you are done for the day.The walls look really cool. Who did the paintjob on them? If you take care of the office like you do your shop it will never look cluttered. Steve

Terry-

Good looking work. Really good looking. I marvel at those of you who keep things that neat and cleaned up, even once.

The wall treatment is interesting. What gives the appearance of light/darker swipes? Is it paint or refracted light?

Steve and Jack,

That is one of them there optical dilusions... :D The glass in the light kit is making those patterns on the wall. The ceiling fan light kit has wavy glass shades.

Very nice, Terry. And having a dedicated office makes dealing with the IRS a lot more clear-cut. It's very hard to charge off the "corner of the family room" if the deduction gets questioned.

Terry:

It looks reall Nice !! It is important to have good space when working from home. If I may suggest a couple of bulletin boards / white board at desk level come in handy for tacking up notes and such. I also might caution you on the chair on the floor. The chair may take off on you some day when you lean back. Don't ask me how I know that. You might want to put down a mat. It will save your tail bone.

Congradulations on your new office space and new furniture, but you are going to have to tell me where the heck is this room in your house????? Is this why Dennis is staying at the hotel this year? :D

t,

This is Payton's old room. He has flown the coop and out on his own...well sort of. We're still helping with car insurance, cell bill etc...... and he's gotta stop by for a little of mom's cooking a few times per week. :D

Dennis and family are staying in a hotel????

Looks good Terry. I did not think any place could look neater than your shop, but I was wrong. Your office is more tidy.

We're fixin' to do something about that tidy shop in a couple of weeks! :eek: I really hate to see Terry's shop get turning chips all over the place, but SOMEBODY is holding me to turning a bowl with him. HONEST Terry, I tried to beg off getting the shop dirty, but he ain't takin' no for an answer. (Just leave the broom and dust pan handy, I will see to it that "He" cleans up after us!) :D

Nice office setup Terry..................looks like there is plenty of room on the desk top for Chris to bed down. Just ignore the "thump" in the middle of the night.............that's just Chris rollin' over in his "bed".............and getting a close-up look at the tile job! :eek: :p :D

Hey, with an office like that, I'd *much* rather work from home! Looks great, Terry! :D And don't call it "el cheopo". It's "Techno"!!! People pay BIG bucks for a look like that! :cool:

Terry.

Very nice job on the office, it looks great. We are in the same position you were in before and running out of room.

I plan to do something like you have done in our home. I may have some questions for you when I get started on it.

Regards,
John
