This morning on my way to work, a tree removal crew was about to remove a large willow oak from the yard across the street. I told one of the crew I turned bowls and I would like to have a chunk of that to turn.
When I got home this is what I found in my front yard. It is 45-46" in diameter and 26" thick. I should have specified the size of chunk I could handle.
I need to get more gas for the chain saw.;)

You could always get into chainsaw art and carve yourself a great big bird fountain, or maybe a picnic table complete w/benches.:D

Ya know, you could do about

Gary, Where the black spot is in the wood there will be a nail or was a nail below it. If the black is on the other end too then it may be in that piece. So make sure to avoid that line or get a metal detctor and make sure. Still is a dandy chunk of wood!! You lucky bum!!
Have fun,
Jeff

Coring tool, bigger lathe, faster horses, younger women, older whisky, more money!

That's either a bunch of nice bowls, or a heck of a lot of pen blanks. Have fun with it.

To me that looks like a pre-bath tub.
