There are many posts on the forum with photos of mobile tool bases that members have built. I haven't noticed details about how the mobile base is to be immobilized when the tool is used. What is the simplest procedure? Wedges?

Some caster wheels have locking tabs, but I've never seen any design that I liked.

I mobilized my workbench with a trick that I read in one of the magazines. I mounted some of the Woodcraft casters intended for a contractors saw, screwed to the legs. This allows me to raise the wheels when I want it stable.

I also have a commercial mobile base on my router table, and I raises the swivel casters off the ground with knobs that you screw down to press against the floor. While I could see it moving if you really pushed at it, for what I do, it is plenty solid when you have it raised.

Search SMC with "zambus" casters.
