Wood-cutting bandsaws run about 3000 sfm. (surface feet/minute) Slower SFM for cutting plastics or metals.

Determine the SFM (surface feet/minute) by the following procedure:

1. Determine the BS wheel RPM: motor pulley diameter / BS wheel pulley diameter X motor RPM = BS wheel RPM. (a direct-drive BS will have same wheel RPM as the motor)
2. Measure the diameter of the drive wheel in inches and multiply by pi (3.1416) to obtain the wheel circumference. The RPM times circumference equals the SFM of the blade.

High speed is about 3200 SFPM, low is about half that. 3200 is about right for that size saw. If you come up with a use for low other than the manufacturer being able to list it as "2 speeds" in the catalog, let us know.;)
