I have an opportunity to buy some red oak
three pieces 8 ft x 2 3/4" x 9"
three pieces 6 ft x 2 3/4" x 9"
they have been stained, the price is $50 for all of them
I have two questions:
is this a good price?
I'd like to resaw them but I don't have a bandsaw to handle them, is it possible to get some sort of service & pay to have them resawn? I'm in northern NJ
Thanks
Dennis

That works out to about 87 bd ft, so you'd be paying $0.57/bdft, which is cheap.

My supplier will resaw up to 8" wide for $.50/square foot. Doesn't help you in NJ but offered as a reference.

Yes, cheap...but....if you cant get the wood to the dimensions you require and its already been stained (??), you have to wonder if its worth the effort...its only red oak, very common and very very cheap.

Cheap if it's good wood and at 2 3/4 inches thick you could saw boards off the edge and have quarter sawn stock wide enough for rails and stiles. Just a thought.
