Lidded Box -- Gum

A friend gave me some timbers he said was gum. I turned a few pieces and the wood is darker then the Sweet Gum I know. Here is a piece of it. What do you think; Black Gum maybe?

This box is 4.5 inch diameter and about 3 inches high. The finial adds another 2 inches to it.

Bill - no concept as to the wood... but I sure like your hollow form! Nice color contrast between the hollow form and the finial!

nice finish and I don't know about the wood. but I don't quite like that form. but it's different.

No idea on the wood but is a nice HF and finial.
