I have a 1/2" round bubinga stretcher going into an ash leg. What is the best glue?

Regular PVA, unibond or should I use an epoxy?

Thanks,

Toney

Bubinga and ash are fine with PVA.

Best glue for what purpose? Pretty much all glues will eventually come loose, and at that point PVA will be very difficult to re-glue. Both plastic resin glue and epoxy can be re-glued with epoxy without having to clean off every bit of the old glue.

But,old epoxy can get brittle, and gluing new epoxy over the old epoxy will leave a brittle layer to crack.

If you want a glue with a bit of flex to it so it won't shatter in a joint, mix some glycerine in with hide glue. Experiment until you find how much glycerine gives a good holding glue with just the amount of flex you want. It doesn't take much glycerine to do the trick.

This was done many years ago when a flexible bond was wanted.

Tightbond 50.

Be a while b4 that gets brittle.

If it's a Welsh style stick chair there's no glue used.
However, no matter the chair style consider repair-ability.

Chairs have highly stressed joints that eventually need repairs.
So the glue should be such that you can re-apply more later and have it get a good bond.

Correct,Cliff,and NOT EPOXY.
